This curriculum, commonly known as the British National Curriculum, is extensively used by international Schools around the world. It is a detailed, planned and integrated scheme covering a child’s whole School experience, from the age of 3 to 18. It is a skill-based curriculum, aided by excellent textbooks and resources, with its own assessment mechanism. It culminates with public examination system (IGCSEs and A’Levels), which are accepted by universities throughout the world.
Students are encouraged to be independent learners, collaborate with their peers, gain conceptual clarity through asking questions, analyse and evaluate situations/ideas. They enhance their creativity through a variety of opportunities within classrooms and beyond. The detail of subjects offered in this phase is as follows:
“Children are born ready, able and eager to learn. They actively reach out to interact with other people, and in the world around them. Development is not an automatic process, however. It depends on each unique child and having opportunities to interact in positive relationships and enabling environments.”
Here at The City School International- Sharjah, we pride ourselves on our Early Years provision for children aged 3 – 5 years old. We believe that young children learn, play and interact when their well-being is placed at the foremost of all that we do. Fostering happiness involves embracing all aspects of a child’s development, listening to their concerns and responding to needs as appropriate. Learning through play, children develop their concentration, try out ideas, imitate grown up’s, expand their imagination, share and socialise.
A child starting school can be a daunting experience for parents and children, so our experienced staff ensure the process is a positive and happy one. We use the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework (revised in September 2021) as our base for the opportunities and provision that we provide to young children in their first years of school. There is a great emphasis on learning through direct, first-hand experiences in a play based environment. Children will start to broaden their horizons and experiences by trying new things; we believe that exploration is the best way to learn. Teachers plan and adapt inspirational activities that meet the individual needs of each child. This allows children to develop the skills needed in preparation for their National Curriculum education that commences in Year 1. A child’s progress is closely monitored and assessed against appropriate age performance standards.
Our EYFS provision at TCSIS is focused on whole-child development, proper attention is given to the social development, skills, and knowledge and understanding that children need to interact efficiently in a complex and changing world. Children in EYFS are introduced to foundations in phonetic understanding, reading, writing, (Science) Understanding the World, Mathematics and Expressive arts and design, supported by a positive and stimulating learning environment.
We believe that children succeed in an environment where everyone knows what is expected of them, and where children are free to explore and learn, without the fear of getting hurt or being hindered by anyone else. We aim to work towards a setting in which children can develop their self-discipline and self-esteem in an atmosphere of mutual respect and encouragement. For this, we set clear boundaries and will, through simple ground rules, maintain consistency for our children.
We promote a healthy lifestyle and by meeting the physical, cognitive and emotional needs of our children, we create a clean and safe environment for them to thrive in.
